DQP, CQP, or AQP? Understanding Vocational Training Diplomas in Cameroon

If you're considering vocational training in Cameroon, you've probably run into these acronyms: DQP, CQP, AQP. What do they actually mean, and which one should you be aiming for? This guide breaks it down clearly, so you can choose your path with confidence.

DQP and CQP: the State's official diplomas

The DQP (Diplôme de Qualification Professionnelle) and the CQP (Certificat de Qualification Professionnelle) are both awarded by the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training (MINEFOP). They're recognized nationwide across Cameroon, earned by sitting a national exam organized by the Ministry.

The difference between the two comes down to the level of qualification:

• The CQP certifies operational mastery of a trade. It's typically earned after a shorter, more intensive program, and prepares technicians to be immediately operational in the field.
• The DQP represents a higher qualification level. It requires longer, more in-depth training covering broader skills — management, complex problem-solving, sometimes leadership. It opens the door to higher-responsibility roles.

Each training track is tied to one or the other of these diplomas, depending on the trade and the level of expertise it requires.
